Frequently asked questions
HOW CAN I REQUEST A VAT INVOICE?
If you require a VAT invoice each evening, please contact reception in advance, as it is not possible to issue a VAT invoice afterwards.
WHERE CAN I PARK? DO I HAVE TO PAY FOR PARKING?
Parking is free in front of the Hospital. Please only use the staff car park in the Hospital's courtyard if you are arriving with a patient with reduced mobility and please inform our reception. Thank you for your understanding!
WHAT TO DO AFTER I ARRIVE AT THE HOSPITAL?
After arrival, please check in at reception! If you have a pet vaccination book, please bring it with you! After the registration, our receptionist will ask you the reason for your visit in order to refer the patient to the appropriate specialist. Please then take a seat until you are called by our colleague. We will examine your pet and if we consider it necessary to make a diagnosis or treat your pet, we will suggest additional tests (laboratory, ultrasound, ECG, X-ray, etc.), all clearly explained and agreed with you in advance.
If your Pet is incapacitated and requires assistance to get to the surgery, please also inform our receptionist who will take care of the matter.
HOW IS PATIENT ADMISSION DONE?
Once you have arrived at our surgery, please check in at our reception. If you are a first time visitor, our staff will take your and your pet's details, ask you to fill in a Privacy Notice and add you to the waiting list. If you have been to our practice more than once, you only need to give the name of the Owner and the name of the pet at the reception desk. If you have an appointment, please let our receptionist know.
ARE THE TESTS CARRIED OUT ON A FIRST-COME, FIRST-SERVED BASIS?
As a general rule, we aim to keep to a first-come, first-served system, which is helped by check-in at reception. In the event of a life-threatening/emergency patient arriving, priority is given to their care. If such a patient arrives, our receptionist will immediately inform the vets.
Patients arriving for a specialised examination are called in by the veterinarians carrying out the specialised examination, regardless of the order of arrival.
Patients coming in for surgery, anaesthesia or infusion treatment are called in by our assistant colleagues out of turn to prepare the preliminary tests or infusion treatment for the attending physician, which may require a longer time.
More typically, out-of-hours care is provided during the weekend on-call period, when unfortunately a large number of accident patients arrive at our hospital. In such cases, we ask for the understanding and patience of our Owners.
WHAT IS THE WAITING TIME?
Waiting times are unpredictable due to the profile of the veterinary hospital (emergency care, acute life-saving, hospital treatments, surgeries, etc.). In general, evening hours, Monday morning and Friday afternoon are the most popular times.
We are the only ones in the waiting room, yet we have to wait, why?
Although you may see the waiting room as empty, the other rooms in the practice are still busy during this time, either with pets who are permanently in the practice and require hospital care, or with patients arriving before you. We can't interrupt an ultrasound, an X-ray or a blood test. We try to see all incoming patients at reception and register them in our system as quickly as possible. In the event of an S.O.S. situation (an animal that is running away, bleeding or in an accident, an animal with respiratory problems, etc.), we will call the patient immediately.

What is anaesthesia?
Anaesthesia or sedation means the loss of consciousness and perception. Many procedures and all surgeries can only be performed in this way. In our clinic, we use balance anaesthesia to achieve pain and sensory deprivation with the lowest possible doses of medication, which is determined individually for each patient.
What check-ups are needed before anaesthesia?
Before anaesthesia, all our Patients undergo a full physical examination, where we pay particular attention to the auditory control of the lungs and heart. Before surgery, we perform blood tests on all our older patients or patients with suspected subclinical disease. We check inflammatory parameters, organ function and screen for heartworm disease and certain infectious diseases in cats.
This should be done for all animals that do not have a blood laboratory within 10 days.
What are the risks of anaesthesia?
In a healthy animal, these risks are very small, but of course the level of risk depends on the breed and species of animal and its health before surgery or intervention. All pets that are anaesthetised can be classified from 1 (healthy animal) to 5 (seriously ill who would not survive without surgery) depending on their physical condition, and as this number increases, so does the risk of anaesthesia.
Some breeds are also known to have a higher risk of anaesthesia, but it also depends on hormonal background, the presence of chronic diseases such as heartworm infestation.
We cannot say whether an animal is too young or too old to be put down. Each case is unique and we have to weigh up the risks and the outcome we can achieve with the intervention. In the light of these, we need to decide what is best for your pet and adjust the combination of drugs used for anaesthesia accordingly.
What is on-call time?
