Endoscopic examinations are also available in our veterinary hospital, which are extremely useful tools for both diagnostics and surgery, allowing direct examination of internal organs and body cavities. Most often gastro-intestinal tract(oesophagus, stomach, intestines) with an endoscope (gastroscopy) to diagnose diseases of the intestinal tract, such as ulcers and tumours. The endoscope allows removal of foreign bodies, such as swallowed objects from the stomach, or stomas from the nasal cavity, so that invasive surgical procedures can be avoided. We often use respiratory for examinations, such as examination or sampling of the nose, throat or lungs (bronchoscopy), in case of cough or respiratory problems. With the endoscope biopsy sampling we also do. The procedure is minimally invasive, so we can reduce the risks involved and shorten the anaesthetic and recovery time.

In our clinic, we perform fluoroscopic examinations, mainly to check the function of the oesophagus. It may be necessary in the diagnosis of congenital diseases, such as narrowing or partial dilatation of the oesophagus (- diveritculum formation) or oesophageal stricture caused by a residual vascular anomaly (ductus art. Botalli). It is also an important method in acquired diseases, e.g. in the detection of esophageal stricture due to subsequent scarring of the esophagus injured during forced feeding of a probe in youth, or even in the detection of megaoesophagus in adulthood. During the examination, you will be given a contrast media-mixed pulp, the passage of which into the stomach can be monitored continuously on an X-ray fluoroscopic screen. A calm animal is required for the examination and it must be manageable, as it must lie on its side as soon as it swallows the food. The test cannot be performed under anaesthesia or stunning. It can also be used to locate and remove certain foreign bodies, such as ingested metal (e.g. needles) or bone fragments, but can usually only be removed under general anaesthesia.
