Emergency surgical care

Emergency surgical and sterile procedures

At our animal hospital, animals requiring emergency surgery receive complex and comprehensive care, including full diagnostics, surgical intervention and intensive aftercare. Our services are available outside elective surgery hours, allowing our critically ill patients to receive the medical care they need as quickly as possible.

Comprehensive Diagnostics

Accurate diagnosis before emergency interventions is crucial. Our hospital's state-of-the-art diagnostic tools - such as X-rays, CT scans, MRIs, ultrasound and laboratory tests - provide detailed and rapid information about the animal's condition. During this process, our expert medical team will thoroughly evaluate the results to recommend immediate intervention.

Surgical Supplies

Once the diagnosis has been confirmed, the necessary emergency surgical procedures are performed under the highest professional standards, taking into account the animal's physiological condition and individual needs. The following surgical procedures are those that typically require urgent care:

  • Caesarean section:
This intervention is necessary in urgent cases where there are complications in the birth process, for example if the baby cannot be born naturally.
  • Intestinal blockages:
A blockage in the digestive tract is a life-threatening condition that requires immediate surgical intervention to clear the blockage.
  • Gastric Dilatation-Volvulus (Gastric Dilatation-Volvulus):
This is a critical condition where the stomach twists, preventing normal blood flow and digestion, requiring urgent surgical intervention.
  • Gut screw:
Intestinal torsion is a serious condition that requires urgent intervention to survive.
  • Lung lobe screw:
A condition in which a part of the lung twists, severely affecting breathing and circulation, requiring urgent medical intervention.
  • Pus-filled mastitis (Pyometra):
A serious condition that requires urgent surgical intervention to remove the infected uterus.
  • Thoraco- and Pericardiocentesis:
Interventions to absorb fluid in the chest cavity (thoracic) or around the heart (pericardial), which are urgent medical treatments to eliminate abnormal fluid accumulation.
  • Laryngectomy:
A procedure used in the event of obstruction or difficulty breathing when restoration of normal breathing becomes urgent.
  • Surgical Exploration of Abdominal Haemorrhages:
Bleeding in the abdomen can be life-threatening and requires urgent surgical exploration to determine and eliminate the source of the bleeding.

Intensive Aftercare

After surgery, patients often need intensive follow-up care to support the healing process. This includes pain relief, close monitoring to avoid complications, and adequate hydration and nutrition. Intensive monitoring allows professionals to continuously assess the condition of the animals and apply immediate rehabilitation measures if necessary.

In our emergency surgical interventions, our aim is to provide the necessary medical care as quickly and efficiently as possible, contributing to patients' speedy recovery.
