ICU - intensive care unit

Intensive hospital care

Lifesaving Care in Critical Cases

Our intensive care unit, part of the internal medicine service at our animal hospital, aims to provide immediate and professional medical intervention for animals in serious, life-threatening conditions. We treat critically ill patients with modern medical equipment and facilities and a high level of professional expertise, under constant supervision, 24 hours a day, as needed. Although the animal must be left in the ICU during treatment, visitors are allowed to visit during the scheduled visiting hours. Our intensive care doctors keep owners informed of the patients' condition by telephone every day, ensuring a constant flow of information.

Cases Requiring Intensive Care

The intensive care unit is used to treat a variety of serious conditions and cases requiring urgent intervention. The most serious conditions that require intensive care for our patients are described below:

  • Serious Respiratory Diseases:
Conditions such as pneumonia, severe asthma attacks or respiratory failure that require urgent oxygen therapy and continuous monitoring.
  • Severe Heart Failure:
A dramatic loss of heart function that requires ongoing medical treatment and monitoring to prevent further complications.
  • Serious Neurological Complaints:
Acute neurological conditions, such as epileptic seizures or stroke symptoms, requiring urgent diagnostic and therapeutic intervention.
  • Post-operative Intensive Care:
Continuous monitoring and support is needed after complex surgical procedures to care for patients and promote recovery.
  • Shocking States:
Life-threatening conditions that require immediate fluid replacement and stabilising treatment.
  • Blood transfusions:
Emergency blood transfusions are essential for the rapid stabilisation of some patients.
  • Cases Requiring Continuous Drip Infusion:
Conditions where fluid replacement requires constant warning and supervision.
  • Special Cases Requiring Continuous Pain Relief:
Treatment of acute pain caused by poisoning, such as rat poisoning, antifreeze, birch or snail poisoning.
  • Cumulative Epileptic Seizures:
Acute conditions that require urgent neurological intervention and therapeutic protocol.
  • Politraumatised Patients:
Emergency coordinated treatment of animals with multiple injuries, including surgical interventions.
  • Complex Management of Heartworm Disease:
The different stages of heartworm disease require hospital care to ensure professional care for recovery.
  • Diseases requiring multiple daily or prolonged treatment:
Examples include acute kidney failure, severe pancreatitis and diabetes mellitus, which require daily monitoring and treatment.
  • Artificial Nutrition:
Animals that cannot feed themselves may need long-term hospitalisation.
  • Treatment of Serious, Contagious, Infectious Diseases:
Infectious diseases such as parvovirus enteritis, which require isolated, specialised hospital treatment.
