Endoscopy

Endoscopy

In our animal hospital, endoscopic examinations offer a wide range of diagnostic and surgical possibilities, allowing direct examination of internal organs and body cavities. This state-of-the-art technique is particularly useful in the examination of the gastrointestinal tract, i.e. the oesophagus, stomach and intestinal tract. Gastroscopy is most often performed to identify various diseases of the intestinal tract, such as ulcers, inflammations and tumours.

The endoscope is not only used for diagnostic purposes; it can also be used to remove foreign bodies. This may be particularly important in cases where the animal has swallowed an object, such as a toy or other indigestible objects. The endoscope can be used to remove these ingested objects from the stomach or, if your pet has ingested a stool, it can be removed from the nasal cavity, reducing the number of invasive surgical procedures required.

In addition, the endoscopic technique is often used for respiratory examinations. Viewing and sampling the nose, throat and lungs (bronchoscopy) is particularly useful if your dog or cat has a cough or respiratory problems. Biopsy sampling is also done using the endoscope, which allows more detailed examination of the tissues.

Endoscopic procedures are minimally invasive, which significantly reduces the risks associated with the procedure. This shortens anaesthesia time and promotes faster recovery, making the animals more comfortable during the examination.
